The Basic System of the Foundation

The Foundation is known as the “Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation”, established in 1989 in Cairo as an initiative made by Mr. Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain. It is a private non-profit cultural foundation that focuses on poetry, among other literary genres. Accordingly, the basic system of the Foundation has been adopted as follows:

Headquarters of the Foundation:

The main headquarters of the Foundation is located in Cairo, where meetings of the Board of Trustees, affiliated bodies of the Foundation, and adjudication committees are held. It is permissible, by a decision of the Chairman of the Foundation, to transfer some meetings and activities to other Arab countries.

Objectives of the Foundation:

The main objectives of the Foundation can be summarized as follows, enriching the Arab poetry movement, fostering the poetic criticism, encouraging communication among poets and those interested in Arabic poetry, and strengthening the bonds between them through:

  1. Organizing a public competition in Arabic poetry and poetic criticism once every two years as part of the Foundation’s sessions and honoring the creative individuals in these fields.

  2. Publishing a series titled "Albabtain Encyclopedia" for both contemporary and deceased Arab poets.

  3. Issuing materials and publications of the poets whose names have been given to the Foundation’s poetic sessions, provided that these publications are published at the same time as those sessions are held, and that these publications include their poetry and any of their other creative works of poetry, in addition to any research papers or studies related to the biographies of those poets and their various literary contributions.

  4. Organizing a literary seminar accompanying the session, focusing on the poet after whom the session was named. The seminar should include research papers on various poetry-related issues and poetry criticism, in addition to hosting poetry evenings featuring a selected elite of Arab poets.

  5. Holding qualitative poetry forums, as decided by the Board of Trustees, in the form of separate gatherings outside the scope of the Foundation’s sessions.

  6. Establishing Albabtain Central Library for Arabic Poetry and Literary, Critical, and Historical Studies related to poetry and poets.

  7. Establishing the Audio Library for Arabic Poetry through audio and visual records of selected poems by ancient and contemporary Arab poets, and with the the voices of artists and radio professionals.

  8. Strengthening relations with literary and poetic associations, organizations, and unions at the Arab national level.

  9. Contacting professors at the Arabic language departments in Arab universities, as well as with professors at the Oriental Studies departments in foreign universities and seeking opportunities to collaborate with them on matters pertaining to creative and critical aspects of Arabic poetry, as well as its study.

  10. Paying attention to the intercultural dialogue and spreading peace in the world.
