Extra Activities

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation has contributed to diverse activities around the world that serve the realms of culture. Some examples of these contributions include:

Saud Albabtain Kuwaiti Scholarship for Postgraduate Studies

          This scholarship was founded in 1974, to spread knowledge and science, provide help and assistance for students whom conditions of life has prevented them from continuing their education, and to encourage the successful ones to complete their postgraduate studies until obtaining the doctorate degree from major universities in different countries of the world.

          The Scholarship provides all expenses for education, accommodation, air travel, food, clothing, books, tuition and medical treatment for these students throughout their scholarships.

          The Scholarship provides 400 scholarships annually to students from Central Asian Republics, Africa, the Arab world, the Balkans, and Europe.

          The number of students who have benefited from the scholarship so far has reached approximately 8,461, including more than 500 Kuwaiti students.

 

Building Schools:

          Mr. Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain continued his commitment to education through various means, including fully funding the establishment of more than 25 schools, colleges, and institutes in several countries, all named after Kuwait, with the condition of preserving the school's name and teaching the Arabic language. Some of these institutions include:

Makkah "- Capital of Islamic Culture" 1426 AH:

          The Foundation issued two books for this occasion, "Mecca in the Eyes of Arab Poets;" 406 pages, edited and presented by Abdulrazzak Hussein and reviewed by Abdulaziz Jumaa and Mahmoud Al-Bajjali. The second entitled, "Hassan Bin Thabet; The Poet of Islamic Dowa`a (Invocation);" 482 pages, written by Dr. Hassan Hosni and reviewed by Adnan Jaber

          The Foundation organized an evening of poetry at Umm Al-Qura University on 06/12/2005, with the contribution of many Arab poets.

Aleppo - "Capital of Islamic Culture" - 1427 AH

          In this celebration, the Foundation issued the following publications: "Aleppo’s Poets in Albabtain’s Ecyclopaedia of Contemporary Arab Poets;" 111 pages, prepared by the General Secretariat of the Foundation, "Tawasheeh and Religious Songs in Aleppo;" medium-sized pages: prepared by Prof. Abdulfattah Qalaji, and "Christian Arab Poets and Islam" (Poetic Texts); 285 pages, prepared by Majed Al-Hakawati

          An evening of poetry with contributions from many Arab poets.

 

Isfahan - "Capital of Islamic Culture" - 1427 AH

          On this occasion, the Foundation issued the following publications: "Isfahan the Carnation of Islamic Civilization;" 66 pages, edited and translated by Prof. Sameer Areshdi.

          An evening of poetry with contributions from prominent Arab poets.

          The Foundation furnished the mausoleum of the poet Al-Saheb bin Abbad in Isfahan.

 

Algeria - "Capital of Arabic Culture" - 2007

          The Foundation issued a book entitled "Algeria in Contemporary Arab Poetry in the Gulf Region and the Arabian Peninsula;" 534 pages containing 101 poems and selected poems of poets from the Gulf and Arabian Peninsula, who wrote about Algeria.

          The Foundation held a symposium about Algeria in Contemporary Arabic Poetry in November. Two topics were presented in this symposium: the first, prepared by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Rabdawi and the second by Dr. Mohammed Al-Dannai.

          Two poetry evenings were held with the contribution of Arab poets, who were members of the delegation of the Foundation to Algeria, under the direction of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees Mr. Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain. The first was held in April 2007 and the second in November 2007.

          16,000 books were donated to Algerian libraries.

Damascus - "Capital of Arabic Culture" - 2008

          Albabtain Central Library for Arabic Poetry, in collaboration with Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, organized an exhibition of "Arab poetry publications in Syria" as part of the activities of the First Arab Poetry Spring Festival in March 2008. The exhibition included thousands of publications related to Arab diwans, critical books, and academic dissertations written on this subject.

          The Foundation announced the special awards for its eleventh edition in Damascus on the occasion of its selection as the Arab Capital of Culture.

          The Foundation's delegation participated in the opening ceremony of Damascus as the Arab Capital of Culture, which was attended by the President of the Board of Trustees.

 

Jerusalem - "Capital of Arabic Culture" - 2009

          The Chairman of the Foundation ordered the sending of a delegation to participate in the celebration of "Jerusalem as the Arab Capital of Culture" for the year 2009.

          The delegation, composed of Dr. Mohamed Shahin, a member of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Abdulaziz Jumah, the Technical Assistant to the Secretary-General of the Foundation, Mr. Mahmoud Al-Bajali, a researcher at the foundation, and Mr. Mohammed Al-Mashayekh, the Director of the Foundation's office in Amman, visited Palestine from July 21 to July 27, 2009.

          They participated in the festivities representing the Foundation, while another delegation attended the closing ceremony.

          As part of the celebration of "Jerusalem as the Arab Capital of Culture", the Chairman of the Foundation donated an amount of $15,000 for the restoration of the girls' school in Wadi Al-Joz in Jerusalem.

          Albabtain Central Library for Arabic Poetry, in collaboration with the Foundation, organized an exhibition of "Arab Poetry Publications in Palestine" as part of the activities of the Second Arab Poetry Spring Festival. The library also hosted an exhibition of Palestinian folk heritage.

 

Doha - "Capital of Arabic Culture" - 2010

          The Secretary-General of the Foundation participated in the celebration and inauguration of this occasion.

          Albabtain Central Library for Arabic Poetry, in collaboration with the Foundation, organized an exhibition of "Arab Poetry Publications in Qatar and the diaspora" as part of the activities of the Third Arab Poetry Spring Festival.

          The Foundation hosted the esteemed professor Wadie Filistine, who delivered a lecture titled "Arabic Literature in the Diaspora."

 

The Foundation’s participations in other occasions:

          The Foundation participated in the seminar of poet Omar Abu Risha organized by the Ministry of Culture in the Arab Republic of Syria on the anniversary of his passing, from 13th to 15th July 2004, at the theatre of the National Book House in Aleppo, with the participation of several researchers, critics, and intellectuals from Syria and the Arab world.

          The Foundation participated in the Arab seminar organized by the Syrian Ministry of Culture on the renowned poet "Badawi Al-Jabal" in Damascus, from 16th to 18th August 2005, in the presence of a distinguished group of university professors, writers, critics, and journalists.

          The Foundation participated in the Arab seminar organized by the Ministry of Culture in the Arab Republic of Syria to honor the memory of poet Nizar Qabbani, from 4th to 6th September 2006, in Damascus.

 

The 800th Anniversary of Jalaluddin Rumi's Birth:

          The Foundation participated in UNESCO's celebration of the "800th Anniversary of the Birth of the Poet Jalaluddin Rumi" in 2007, and published a book titled "Jalaluddin Rumi: The Messenger of Mystical Poetry" (136 pages) edited by Samir Archidi.

 

 

The Second World of Poetry Festival in Najaf:

          The Foundation participated in the second "World of Poetry Festival" held in Najaf, Iraq, in November 2011, as a prelude to announcing Najaf as the Capital of Islamic Culture for the year 2012. The Foundation was represented by the Assistant to the Secretary-General, Mr. Abdulaziz Gomaa. It was the will of God that he passed away during the opening of the festival, just minutes before delivering the
Foundation's speech.

Constantine - "Capital of Arab Culture" - 2015

          The Chairman of the Foundation personally participated in the opening ceremony on 16th April 2015. The Foundation presented a number of publications for this occasion, in addition to organizing an additional poetry evening.

 

Collaboration between the Ministry of Information in Kuwait and Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation to organize the fifth introductory course for new broadcasters - 13th March 2016

          The Ministry of Information in Kuwait held its fifth introductory course for new broadcasters in collaboration with Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation.

          The course aimed to focus on identifying common and widely circulated errors among broadcasters and addressing them. It also included various training exercises on the correct presentation methods for broadcasters.

 

Contribution of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, in collaboration with Sawt Al-Arab Radio in Egypt, to distribute prizes for the Arab Diwan Poetry Competition for the second consecutive year - 3rd May 2016

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation organized an event at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina in Egypt to distribute prizes to the winners of its Arab Diwan competition, which was held in collaboration with Voice of the Arabs Radio in Cairo for the second consecutive year.

          This step was part of the Foundation's goals to support and promote Arab poetry through various media channels.

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation plants the Peace Tree at the University of Oxford, UK - 2nd June 2016

          As a continuation of the achievements of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation in its fifteenth session, which was held at the University of Oxford, the President of the foundation, poet Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain, planted the Peace Tree in the vicinity of the Middle East Center affiliated with the prestigious University of Oxford.

          This gesture aimed to consolidate the success of the Foundation through its session held in Oxford under the theme "Our World is One, and the Challenges We Face are Shared."

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation organizes "Al-Andalus Day" in Cairo - 2nd August 2016

          For the fourth consecutive year, the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, in collaboration with the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, organized a joint event that included a cultural celebration and an intellectual seminar titled "Andalusia: Between Literature and History." This was to reaffirm the historical significance of Andalusia as a shining epoch in Arab-Islamic history and this history’s precedence in introducing the concept of diversity and peaceful coexistence among civilizations and cultures.

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation holds a poetry competition for the younger generation - 17th July 2016

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation organized a competition in memorizing and reciting poetry for students aged twelve to fourteen from schools in Kuwait. The competition was held under the patronage of the Minister of Education and Higher Education at that time, Dr. Bader Hamad Al-Essa.

          This event coincided with Kuwait being selected as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2016.

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation establishes the Master’s Chair of Contemporary Arab Studies in Spain - 3rd August 2016

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation established a chair for the Master's program in Contemporary Arab Studies at the University of Barcelona in Spain. It is the first chair of its kind to be created with the support of an Arab figure. Moreover, it is the only chair in Europe that exclusively uses the Arabic language for teaching the "Master's in Arab Studies" program.

 

Albabtain's name given to the prestigious Arabic Language Chair at Oxford - the Laudian Chair - 17th September 2016

          The University of Oxford bestowed the name of the President of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation upon its most distinguished and oldest Arabic Language Chair, known as the Laudian Chair, which was established in 1636 by William Laud, the former Chancellor of the University of Oxford. This honor reflects the contributions made by the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation in the fields of culture and intercultural dialogue, as well as the generous support provided by Albabtain to the Center for Eastern Studies at Oxford.

 

University of Palermo in Italy names its Arab Culture Chair after the President of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation - 27th October 2016:

          The University of Palermo in Italy named its Arab Culture Chair after the President of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, the poet Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain. The Foundation also conducted Arabic language courses as part of the activities of this chair, and discussions were held to explore opportunities for collaboration in organizing joint work related to interfaith dialogue.

 

Albabtain Cultural Foundation participates in the Arab Ministers Conference - 19th December 2016

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation participated in the 20th version of the "Arab Ministers Conference Responsible for Cultural Affairs in the Arab World," organized by the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). The conference focused on the role of cultural media in social development and its significance in raising awareness and establishing an intellectual framework for individuals and institutions, thus playing a sovereign role in the development process.

 

Poet Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain offers scholarships to students from Burkina Faso - 10th January 2017

          The Chairman of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation granted scholarships to twenty students annually from Burkina Faso in various disciplines at Al-Azhar University in Egypt as part of the "Saud Albabtain Kuwaiti Scholarship for Post-Graduate Studies," which was established in 1974. This initiative took place during a visit by the Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Kuwait, Abu Bakr Kutty, to the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, where he was received by the Chairman of the Foundation to discuss avenues for cultural cooperation with Burkina Faso.

 

 

Donation of seven thousand books by Albabtain Cultural Foundation to Sudan on the occasion of Sennar being chosen as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2017 - 11th January 2017:

          The Chairman of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation donated seven thousand books to the Republic of Sudan on the occasion of selecting the city of Sennar Capital of Islamic Culture for 2017. On this occasion, the Sudanese Embassy in Kuwait, represented by Muhyeedin Salem, announced the inauguration of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Chair for the Arabic Language at Sennar University.

 

Albabtain Cultural Foundation launches its first Courses of the Arabic Poetry Academy - 21st January 2017

          The Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation launched its first courses at the Arabic Poetry Academy which the Foundation had established at the Central Albabtain Library for Arab Poetry. The Academy provided free courses to students aged twelve to fifteen, covering various topics such as "The History and Impact of Poetry," "Prosody," "Poetry Reading," and "The Art of Recitation."

 

Albabtain Cultural Foundation honors the winners of the Diwan Al-Arab competition in collaboration with Sawt Al-Arab Radio in Egypt for the third consecutive year - 4th March 2017

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation announced the names of the winners of the Diwan Al-Arab competition, which it has organized for the third consecutive year in collaboration with Sawt Al-Arab Egyptian Radio. The competition aims to highlight the role of promising young poets throughout the Arab world, reflecting the Foundation's approach in supporting talented poets from the new generations and fostering constructive cultural cooperation with various media entities.

 

 

 

The World Poetry Academy in Verona celebrates World Poetry Day under the patronage of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation - 19th March 2017

          Under the patronage of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, the World Poetry Academy in Verona, Italy, celebrated World Poetry Day. This step serves as an encouragement to the global character embraced by the Albabtain Cultural Foundation, through engaging poets from diverse cultures to build bridges of cultural and civilizational communication and interaction.

 

"Intercultural Dialogue" Agreement between the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation and the International Peace Institute (IPI) - 29th April 2017

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation signed an agreement on cultural dialogue with the International Peace Institute (IPI), a United Nations organization. The agreement includes various provisions for cooperation between the Foundation and the Institute, including organizing seminars, lectures, and other joint activities related to cultural dialogue, peace support, and coexistence among nations.

 

Official Recognition of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation in Italy and European Union Countries - 9th May 2017

          In a step towards activating its global presence, the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation has been officially and legally recognized as a cultural institution in Italy and acknowledged in all European Union countries. This recognition is in line with the Foundation's objectives of enhancing and supporting peace and coexistence initiatives among peoples, which are also pursued by civil society organizations in Europe, as well as organizing activities related to peace, such as seminars, training courses, and peace studies in cooperation with universities, institutes, and global cultural centers.

 

Arabization of Institutions and Streets in Comoros Islands as part of the "Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation" Program for 15 years - 6th May 2017

          As part of a program for Arabization established by the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, the Republic of Comoros has started changing the names of ministries, official institutions, public facilities, and authorities into the Arabic language. For the first time, signs bearing Arabic names have appeared on the streets, starting from the presidency, and extending to other governmental institutions and beyond.

          This came as a part of a program for Arabization developed by the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, which aims to promote the Arabic language in the Comoros Islands through various means, including the provision of free Arabic language courses at different academic and popular levels, as well as the establishment of the "Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Training Center for Arabic Language Teachers" at the University of Comoros.

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation announces "Diwan Al-Arab" competition in collaboration with Sawt Al-Arab Radio in Egypt for the fourth consecutive year - 4th June 2017

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation announced its annual "Diwan Al-Arab" competition for the fourth consecutive year, a collaborative effort with Sawt Al-Arab Radio in Egypt. This competition aligns with the Foundation's core objectives of preserving the Arabic language and enhancing its status through poetry, which serves as an important medium for eloquence.

 

Albabtain presents a global peace project before the UN - 8th September 2017

          Poet Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain presented a peace project titled "For the Security of Future Generations" before the United Nations General Assembly. The project aims to include special lessons on peace in educational curricula, starting from nursery programs to schools, institutes, and even university education.

 

Program for Teaching Arabic to Foreign Diplomatic Missions organized by Albabtain Academy for Arab Poetry - 5th October 2017:

          Albabtain Academy for Arab Poetry affiliated to Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation launched a new free program for teaching the Arabic language to non-Arabic speaking foreign diplomatic missions residing in Kuwait.

          The program serves the Foundation's objectives of promoting the Arabic language, enhancing its presence, and introducing Arab culture throughout past, present, and future, in a way that enables learners to personally explore our culture, thus achieving civilizational balance with nations whose languages have a strong presence among people.

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation releases the book "Reflections for Peace" - 18th September 2017

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation published a book titled "Reflections for Peace" authored by the Foundation's Chairman, poet Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain. The book serves as a culmination of the poet's thoughts and aspirations for peace, which he actively pursues through his unwavering dedication to organizing seminars and conferences worldwide, bringing together thinkers from diverse backgrounds and orientations for constructive dialogue.

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation participates in an international peace gathering in Bahrain - 5th November 2017

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation participated in a meeting organized by the International Peace Institute held in the Kingdom of Bahrain, attended by the newly elected President of the United Nations General Assembly, Miroslav Lajčák, as well as several ministers, political figures, diplomats, cultural personalities, and media representatives in order to introduce the new UN Plan of Action on Peace. During the gathering, the representative of Albabtain Foundation, Dr. Touhami Abdouli, conveyed the vision of the Foundation's Chairman regarding peace and the efforts he makes, whether through the Foundation's international courses and conferences that invite influential and intellectual figures from various religions and perspectives, or by the presence of Mr. Albabtain before the United Nations to present a project on peace.

 

 

 

International Conference and Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Chair for Peace in Europe - 22nd November 2017

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation organized an international conference on "Culture of Peace for the Security of Future Generations" in Rome, Italy, specifically at the University of Roma Tre, on the occasion of the establishment of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Chair for Peace in Europe. The Chair focuses on teaching and understanding the culture of peace and its mechanisms, embodying the project presented by the Foundation's Chairman to the former President of the United Nations General Assembly, which was officially recognized by the UN.

 

Leiden University in the Netherlands grants a professorship for Arab Culture to Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation - 3rd January 2018

          Leiden University in the Netherlands inaugurated the "Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation Professorship" dedicated to Arab Culture. This professorship is the first of its kind granted by Leiden University to a cultural foundation. The professorship specializes in teaching and conducting research in the field of Arabic language and culture. It includes a series of seminars and courses at the master's and doctoral levels, supervision of research projects on Arab culture spanning its historical and contemporary aspects, and providing an opportunity to delve deeper into the various components of Arab culture across different fields.

 

New Book on the Project of Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation for Peace - 16th January 2018

          As part of the project "Culture of Peace for the Security of Future Generations" by Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, a book titled "Islamic Identity and Its Contemporary Issues" was published, authored by the thinker Hassib. The book addresses the issue of identity, which has become intertwined with significant historical events witnessed in the past century. The author believes that the occurrence of those events led to the emergence of various identities on the global scene.

 

Formation of an International Committee for Developing Peace Culture Curricula within the Project presented by Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation before the UNGA - 28th January 2018

          The committee responsible for developing Peace Culture Curriculum, formed by Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, held its first meeting in the Italian capital, Rome, to implement the proposal presented by the Foundation's Chairman to the United Nations General Assembly, which was approved and recognized by the UN and aimed at teaching peace curricula worldwide. The committee prepared lessons inspired by the book "Reflections for Peace" authored by poet Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain.

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation Signs an Agreement with the "European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation." - 29th January 2018

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation entered into a cooperation agreement with the "European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation" to supervise the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Chair for Peace and develop lessons on peace culture within the Foundation's project "Culture of Peace for the Security of Future Generations." The agreement includes the development of teaching curricula on peace culture in European universities.

 

Albabtain Cultural Foundation and the World Poetry Academy in Verona Graduate the First Batch - 16th May 2018

          Albabtain Academy of Arabic Poetry, affiliated with Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, held a graduation ceremony for the first batch of its students. These students received a diploma in poetic creativity through a collaboration with the World Poetry Academy in Verona, Italy. The Academy combined lessons on the teaching of Arabic poetic rules into one curriculum, given the close connection between poetry and Arab culture and its history.

 

 

 

Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation Announces the Fifth Edition of the "Diwan Al-Arab" Competition in Collaboration with Sawt Al-Arab Radio in Egypt - 10th June 2018

          Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation announced its annual competition titled "Diwan Al-Arab," dedicated to Arabic poetry, in collaboration with Sawt Al-Arab Radio, reaching its fifth consecutive edition. Through this competition, the Albabtain Cultural Foundation aims to encourage poets to elevate Arabic poetry and expand cooperation with specialized media entities in the cultural field, such as Sawt Al-Arab Radio in Egypt.

 

29th June 2018: Inauguration of the Aboul-Qacem Echebbi Chair in the City of Culture in Tunisia.

          The City of Culture in the capital of Tunisia witnessed the inauguration of the Aboul-Qacem Echebbi Chair for Arabic Poetry, initiated by the "Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation" in collaboration with the Tunisian Ministry of Cultural Affairs. The event was attended by Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi, along with a gathering of Tunisian and Arab poets. The idea behind establishing the Chair emerged from a shared vision between Abdulaziz Albabtain and President Essebsi, considering the pioneering role of the poet Aboul-Qacem Echebbi in Tunisia and the Arab world.
