"Albabtain Award for Creativity in the Service of the Arabic Language" Opens the Door for Nominations for its Inaugural Edition

The Board of Trustees of the "Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Award for Creativity in the Service of the Arabic Language" has announced the opening of nominations for the award's first edition in 2024.

The nominations will be open from May 15, 2024, until September 15, 2024.

"Albabtain Award for Creativity in Service of the Arabic Language," established in collaboration between the Arab Parliament and the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, is an independent and neutral award. Its criteria for granting are solely based on the creative aspects of Arabic language aesthetics and the preservation of Arab identity, without regard to political orientations or intellectual beliefs of the candidates. It does not discriminate based on color, religion, or gender. Works submitted for the Award will be reviewed by a specialized scientific judging panel to ensure compliance with the announced conditions. The decisions of this panel are final after approval by the Award’s Board of Trustees.

The Award, with a total value of $100,000 in its first edition, is allocated as follows: $60,000 for the "Institutions" category, focusing on language planning and policies, and $40,000 for the "Individuals" category, focusing on digitalization in service of the Arabic language. The award aims to encourage and honor Arab writers, thinkers, researchers, and scholars, recognizing their significant contributions to intellectual and scientific advancement in the fields of the Arabic language, consolidating its presence, and promoting it. Additionally, the Award seeks to facilitate the study of Arabic language sciences, rules, texts, and literature both within Arab communities and internationally.

The criteria for nomination in the various branches of the award include several conditions. Firstly, the nominated work must use standard Arabic correctly. For printed works, they must be published with an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) to ensure intellectual property rights. The nominated work must have been published no more than three years before the award announcement date of May 15, 2024. The award will not be awarded to any work that has won a similar award within the five years preceding the announcement date of May 15, 2024. Furthermore, individuals nominated for the award in the "Individuals" category must not be members of the organizing team or affiliates of the Foundation or entity nominated for the award in the "Institutions" category. Additionally, each nominee is allowed to submit only one work for consideration.

The General Secretariat will accept all nomination files for the award from May 15 to September 15, 2024. Submissions received after this date will not be considered. Applicants must submit a written application for nomination, seven copies of the nominated printed work, and a memory card containing a high-quality digital version of the nominated work, along with a description and usage mechanisms. Additionally, a resume must be included, containing personal information, professional history, and all works and efforts accomplished in various fields, with a particular focus on the field for which the award is being nominated.

The Board of Trustees of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Award for Creativity in the Service of the Arabic Language is pleased to announce the opening of nominations for the inaugural 2024 edition of the award.

Firstly - Individual Category in the Field of: Digitization in Service of the Arabic Language

Valued at (Forty Thousand US Dollars)

The award in this category is granted to individuals who own programs, applications, social media platforms, or websites that commit to using standard Arabic language. They contribute to facilitating the study of Arabic language sciences, its rules, texts, and etiquette. Furthermore, they aid in promoting the use, empowerment, and revitalization of Arabic language dynamics within and beyond the Arab world.

Secondly - Institutions Category in the Field of: Language Planning and Policies

Valued at (Sixty Thousand US Dollars)

The award is granted to a public or private entity or institution for issuing a publication, an initiative or a project that contributes to outlining linguistic planning strategies, establishing various language policies, and aims to preserve the Arabic language, enhance its usage methods, solidify its presence, and promote it within Arab and non-Arab communities.

 

Award Conditions:

1.    The nominated work must adhere to the correct and proper usage of standard Arabic language.

2.    The nominated work should consider standards of authenticity, scientific integrity, and innovation.

3.    The nominated paper must be published and have an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). Its first edition should not have been published more than three years from the announcement date of the prize on May 15, 2024.

4.    The nominated digital work must be implemented and have user interaction before the award announcement date on May 25, 2024, for a duration of no less than six months.

5.    Copyrights, patents, or trademarks of the nominated work must belong to the nominator.

6.    The nominated work must comply with international agreements for intellectual property protection.

7.    The nominated work must not contain any offensive materials in any form.

8.    The nominee should not have previously won a similar award within the past five years before the announcement date of the award on May 15, 2024.

9.    The nominee for the Individuals Category should not be a member of the working team or affiliated with the Foundation or entity nominated for the award in the Institutions Category.

10.                   Each nominee is entitled to submit only one work for the award.

11.                   The nominee must adhere to the announced deadlines for applying for the award.

12.                   The prize is not obligated to return the nominated works to the nominees under any circumstances.

 

Nomination Process:

The nominee submits a hard copy of the application file to the award’s secretariate, including the following:

1.    A handwritten nomination request.

2.    Declaration of intellectual ownership of the work nominated for the award by the nominee.

3.    Seven copies of the paper work nominated for the award.

4.    A memory card containing a high-quality copy of the digital work nominated, along with its description and usage mechanisms.

5.    A resume of the nominee including personal data, professional background, all works, and efforts undertaken in all fields, with a focus on the field of the nominated award.

6.    A copy of the nominee's proof of identity (ID card/passport).

7.    Any additional documents or materials deemed appropriate by the nominee to support their nomination.

Nomination Period: The nomination for the award begins on May 15, 2024, and ends on September 15, 2024.

 

Arbitration:

The submitted works for the award are reviewed by a specialized scientific judging committee after ensuring their compliance with the announced conditions. The decisions of this committee are final after approval by the Award’s Board of Trustees.
