Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation has released its fourth poetic encyclopaedia titled "Albabtain Encyclopaedia for Arabic Poets in India." This encyclopaedia comprises biographies and poems of more than three hundred poets across three volumes. The compilation is authored by Dr. Abdullah Al-Qatam, a professor at the Faculty of Arts at Kuwait University.
This encyclopaedia focuses on poets whose contributions were overlooked by historians of Arabic literature, with their biographies and poems not receiving due attention.
The Chairman of the Foundation, poet Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain, noted that the poets featured in this encyclopaedia come from diverse backgrounds and origins, but share a common love for the Arabic language and a deep connection to the Islamic faith. Some migrated from various Arab regions to settle in cities within the Indian subcontinent, while others are descendants of those who migrated from the Arab homeland or other countries many centuries ago.
Mr. Albabtain further added that the encyclopaedias previously issued by the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation included a number of these poets. The selection process involved choosing specific samples of their authentic poetic verses found in various sources while excluding verses and poems that contained irregularities or distortions.
It is worth mentioning that "Albabtain Encyclopaedia for Arabic Language Poets in India" is the fourth poetic encyclopaedia published by the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation. This follows the publication of "Albabtain Encyclopaedia for Contemporary Arab Poets," "Albabtain Encyclopaedia for Arab Poets in the Nineteenth and Twentieth Centuries," and "Albabtain Encyclopaedia for Arab Poets in the Era of States and Emirates."
Furthermore, the Foundation is currently working on the release of two new encyclopaedias in the upcoming period: "Albabtain Encyclopaedia for Arabic Language Poets from Pre-Islamic Times to the End of the Umayyad Era" and "Albabtain Encyclopaedia for Arabic Language Poets in the Abbasid Era."
This series of encyclopaedias serves as an extension of a chronological sequence that gradually reaches back to explore the depths of Arab poetry. This confirms the Foundation's commitment to covering all preceding historical periods by introducing the biographies of poets of those eras. These encyclopaedias also serve as valuable resources for researchers, scholars, and enthusiasts of poetry. Simultaneously, they serve as documentary pages that immortalize poets and preserve some of their poems across time.
