September 5, 2020

The International Peace Institute (IPI) has extended an invitation to the Chairman of Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation to deliver a video speech on the occasion of a virtual seminar organized and hosted by the institute in collaboration with the President of the United Nations General Assembly. The seminar is titled "Education, COVID-19, and the Culture of Peace" and will take place on Thursday, September 10th, 2020, at 9:00 PM Kuwait time, which is 2:00 PM New York time. The event is part of the annual high-level United Nations Forum on the Culture of Peace and is scheduled to last for an hour and a half.

The President of the International Peace Institute (IPI), Terry Rød Larsen, directed an invitation message to Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain, stating: "The emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic marks the worst global health crisis in a century, which has also led us to face an education crisis. To mitigate the spread of the virus, governments around the world made the difficult decision to close schools, impacting vulnerable communities, including refugees and conflict-affected nations. To help alleviate the negative impacts, the International Peace Institute (IPI), in collaboration with the Office of the President of the United Nations General Assembly, is organizing this high-level seminar."

The speakers in this seminar will discuss the impact of the worldwide suspension of education, examining how global policymakers are working to mitigate the long-term health effects of COVID-19. They will also delve into its effect on daily life, gender equality, and call for practical consideration based on the words of the Secretary-General of the United Nations ("How do we create viable education systems that are inclusive and resilient for the future").

Regarding this invitation, Mr. Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain, the Chairman of the Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Cultural Foundation, stated: "As we express our gratitude to the International Peace Institute and its President, Terry Rød Larsen, for this invitation, we reaffirm that the Foundation remains committed to its path of promoting a culture of peace in collaboration with the United Nations General Assembly and the International Peace Institute, as is customary in the month of September each year."
