He resided in Cairo, where he studied the Arabic language, then continued his studies at the University of California, Berkeley, specializing in classical Arabic poetry.

He graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.

He obtained his PhD from the same university in the field of Near Eastern Studies in 2006.

He teaches Arabic literature at the American University of Kuwait and has also served as the Chair of the Arabic and Foreign Languages Department at the same university.

He is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cultural Forum Award for Arabic Short Story in Kuwait.

He has written about ancient Arabic poetry, the interpretation of the Holy Quran, and the Arabic language.
