Prof. Dr. Ali Fahmy Khashimi

Born in Misrata, Libya, in the year 1936.

Obtained a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Arts, Libyan University - Benghazi, in the year 1962.

A Master's degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Arts, Ain Shams University in Cairo - 1966.

A Ph.D. in Philosophy from the Faculty of Oriental Studies, Durham University - Britain, in the year 1971.

Appointed as a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts, Libyan University - Benghazi, from 1962 to 1975, then as an assistant professor, associate professor, and finally as a chair professor at the Faculty of Education, Al-Fateh University - Tripoli, from 1975 to 1987.

Appointed Minister of Information and Culture - Libya, from 1971 to 1972.

Appointed Minister of State, President of the Cultural and Educational Affairs Council, Arab Republics Union - Cairo, from 1972 to 1975.

Executive Board member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) - Paris, from 1976 to 1980.

Worked as a full-time researcher as a professor at the Center for Humanities Research - Tripoli, from 1987 to 1989, then as a supervising professor for postgraduate studies - Tripoli, in 1989, at the Faculty of Social Sciences - Al-Fateh University.

Secretary of the People's Committee (Dean) of the Faculty of Education, Al-Fateh University - Tripoli, in 1976.

Secretary (Chair) of the Interpretation Department (Philosophy) - Faculty of Education - Tripoli, from 1987 to 1988.

Secretary (Dean) of the Faculty of Languages, Tripoli - 1987 to 1988.

Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of UNESCO - Paris, from 1980 to 1987.

Secretary-General (President) of the Arab Language Academy in Libya since the year 1994.

Elected as a member of the Arab Language Academy in Cairo in the year 2003, succeeding the late Dr. Jacques Berque.

Founded the magazine "Qurina" and served as its editor-in-chief, Faculty of Arts, Benghazi - 1966 to 1972.

Founded and chaired the editorial board of the newspaper "Al-Usbu' Al-Thaqafi" - Tripoli, in the year 1972.

Founded and chaired the editorial board of the magazine "Afkar" - Philosophy Department - Tripoli, from 1987 to 1988.

Member of the editorial board of the magazine "Al-Hikmah" - Philosophy Department - Tripoli, in the year 1975.

Member of the editorial board of the magazine "Al-Wahda" - National Council for Arab Culture - Rabat, in the year 1985.

Founded the magazine "Al-Fosool Al-Arba'a" issued by the Writers and Authors Union and served as its editor-in-chief - Tripoli, from 1977 to 1980.

Member of the Administrative Board of the Writers and Authors Union - Libya, from 1976 to 1980.

Member of the Board of Trustees (National Council for Arab Culture) - Rabat, in the year 1983.

Founding member of the Arab Center for Historical Studies - Tripoli, in the year 1988.

Editor-in-chief of the magazine " Al-Fosool Al-Arba'a" in 1998.

Supervisor of the magazine "La" - 1997 to 1999.

Member of the Board of Trustees of Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain Prize Foundation for Poetic Creativity - 1998 to 2000.

Supervisor of the cultural magazine "Al-Mashhad" - 2004.

Editor-in-chief of the magazine "Hawliya" issued by the Arabic Language Academy - Libya.
